On
2nd September 2006, The Salvation Army Hall re-opened its
doors after five months of work to renovate the building in
Foghamshire.
The
project cost £360,000 with donors including Viridor,
and North Wiltshire District Council
Doorway
is now able to offer guests a bright, clean environment with
new facilities including showers, toilets, washing machines
and tumble driers.
The
building was opened by Chippenham Mayor Maureen Lloyd and
Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cochrane of The Salvation Army in
the UK and Ireland. Also in attendance were Councillors Nina
Phillips and Judy Rooke; the former Mayor Ross Henning; Janice
Fortune, Chief Executive of CVSNW; Margaret Cleverley, Doorway
Project Manager; and a large contingency of Salvation Army
representatives.
Captain
Mary Wolfe said "It's a relief to finally have it open
and it will also be a very valuable facility for those living
in Chippenham. The facilities can be used by anyone whether
elderly or homeless"
Doorway
Advisory Committee member Coun Nina Phillips said that she
is amazed at how much the centre wil provide for vulnerable
people. "Having attended the ceremony, I was really impressed
by what has been achieved. Inside the building has been transformed
and I am proud to be on the Doorway Advisory Committee."
