Chippenham’s
new Mayor, Councillor Marian Stickland, has nominated Doorway
as her chosen Charity of the Year at the recent Mayor Making
Ceremony.
Doorway is a drop-in centre in the town providing a friendly,
safe place for adults who are homeless or who have complex
issues, such as debt, mental health problems, substance use
or poor life skills which are likely to affect their ability
to acquire or sustain a tenancy.
Margaret Cleverley, Doorway’s Project Manager said:
“We are very proud that Doorway has been chosen by the
Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Mrs Marian Stickland, as her
mayoral charity for this year. She has visited the drop-in
and we will be working closely with her and supporting her
where we can in her fundraising efforts.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to continue
raising the profile of Doorway locally and telling everyone
about the positive work we are doing to help people who are
homeless or who have other complex problems to change their
lives.”
Councillor Marian Stickland, Mayor of Chippenham said “As
Mayor of Chippenham I have chosen Doorway as my charity for
this year and will raise as much money as I can.”
“I have joined them for lunch and talked with all the
guests. The facilities for a meal, shower and change of clothes
are excellent and guests receive any help required. The volunteers
are very dedicated to the organisation and nothing is too
much trouble for them.”
“ I aim to raise awareness of the services offered and
wish you all the very best for the future.”
