Doorway Homelessness Sunday Service - Sunday 30th January 2011 3pm

@ St Andrew's Church, Market Place, Chippenham

All welcome

On Saturday 29th January 2010 Doorway will be hosting a Gig Night at the Cause, The Causeway, Chippenham from 7pm – 9pm. We are very proud to announce that our band, Electric Doorway, will be launching their first CD at the event. The band combines blues guitar with rock drumming and a very unique singing voice! They are full of energy and a large majority of their songs are based on their experiences of being homeless and vulnerably housed.

Electric Doorway will also be supported by an eclectic mix of local bands including Poco Cora and Rhythm Instinct, Odd Socks and The Tin Cards. Tickets will be available on the door for £5 or £3 concessions.

Homelessness Sunday, on the 30th January, will be celebrated by Doorway with a Church service at St Andrew’s Church, Market Place, Chippenham at 3pm. This is an annual day of prayer and action, marked by over 2,000 churches in England, Scotland and Wales, highlighting the devastating effects of homelessness and poverty. This will be a chance for the local community to join the staff, volunteers and guests of Doorway in celebration of the continuation of our work throughout the coming year.

In 2011 there will be a census of the population, as there is every 10 years. The census will try to list all of the people who live in the country – but chances are there are many it won’t include – such as the ‘hidden homeless’ and destitute asylum seekers. The census has important implications for policies and public services such as education, housing and health. But many excluded people – such as households in multiple occupation, the hidden homeless and people without documentation – were undercounted in the last census.
