About Doorway Homelessness in North Wiltshire News Our Guests If You Are Homeless Friends of Doorway How You Can Help Corporate Support

Sponsored SleepOut - Saturday 28th January 2012

After the phenomenal successes of the previous SleepOuts Doorway staff, volunteers and members of the local community will once again be braving the great British winter weather and sleeping rough to increase awareness of homelessness in North Wiltshire and raise much needed funds for the Doorway drop-in centre.

The previous SleepOuts have raised over £22,000 and Doorway was featured on BBC Points West television news; live radio interviews on BBC Radio Wiltshire and Heart FM; and articles published in The Wiltshire Times and The Gazette and Herald newspapers.

The SleepOut will take place from 7pm on Saturday 28th January 2012 until 7am on Sunday 29th January at St Andrew's Churchyard, Chippenham. The event has once again been organised to coincide with both Poverty and Homelessness Action Week and Homelessness Sunday.

The SleepOut Information Pack, including guidelines and general information regarding the event; registration and sponsorship forms, is now available to download from here or by post / collection from the Doorway office.

Once again, we are aiming to increase both the number of participants and the amount of sponsorship this year. With this in mind we are allowing children over the age of 10 to participate as long as they have parental/guardian consent and are accompanied by a responsible adult aged at least 18 years old.

Doorway would like to invite members of the public, businesses and other organisations to support this event by participating in the SleepOut, joining us for the first part of the night, or by publicising the event.

Please telephone the Doorway office for 01249 445385 or email for more details.

Pre-registration is essential, so that we know how many people will be attending, to enable us to manage the event safely and efficiently. To pre-register please send a completed registration form for each individual (including children) to the address below.

Thank you for supporting Doorway and please spread the word.

Remember that although we are giving up a warm bed for the night, we still have one to go back home to in the morning…

Doorway SleepOut Media Release December 2011

Due to the bitterly cold weather conditions experienced over the last 4 years Doorway has decided that we need to have a contigency plan for the night of the SleepOut - since we do not want to be responsible for anyone getting hypothermia (!), we will allow participants to pitch tents in the churchyard for the night.
