Bob, who trained
as a carpenter, is 43 years old and is another of Doorway's
regular guests. He was kicked out of home at the age of 17
and travels around a lot, sleeping rough and finding shelter
where ever he can; whether it be in a car park or shop entrance.
Bob
believes that without the service provided by Doorway, his
life would a lot worse.
Bob says:-
"I come
in on most Mondays and Thursdays when I am staying in the
town, and we all know each other here."
"I don't
have anywhere to stay and I dont tend to sleep rough in the
town centre since it is dodgy, in the sense that you feel
vulnerable."
"If it
rains then I just get wet and I do sometimes look for food
in skips. If I beg then I might also make a few pounds."
Although Bob
has suffered a hard life, he wants to support himself by selling
the Big Issue.
"Homelessness
is a big problem in Chippenham and it feels like people just
don't really care. Doorway helps my situation a great deal"
