After
being made redundant by Dyson in 2003, Steve found himself
homeless and without support.
The
47 year-old father, who had worked in the motor shop of the
Malmesbury based vacuum cleaner factory, had been on the brink
of getting a mortgage for a house in the town when he lost
everything.
Steve now relies on the Doorway centre
for a hot meal, a hot shower and to meet other people in the
same situation to himself.
He said:" I now live in
a caravan just outside Chippenham. The main problem for me
is where I get my clean water from."
"I have to walk to a natural
spring, but that is about three miles away. I then have to
carry the water, which I use for drinking and washing, back
to my site."
Steve said that Doorway provided
a lifeline for him.
